A few words
from the author
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I thought I knew what to expect. After all, as an oncology-certified nurse and hospital leader, I had walked alongside countless patients through their own cancer journeys. But nothing could have prepared me for the profound emotional and physical challenges I faced as I became a patient myself.
In this memoir, I invite you into my world—a world of uncertainty, struggle, faith, and resilience. I share the raw truth of my experience, from the diagnosis and mastectomy to the painful realities of treatment and the aftermath. But this book is more than just my story. It’s the story of over 350 survivors who shared their most intimate reflections with me, offering wisdom and hope for those navigating similar paths.
This book is for survivors, the newly diagnosed, their loved ones, and anyone who has been touched by serious illness. It’s also for healthcare providers who need to understand the emotional impact of disease from both sides—the one who gives care, and the one who receives it.
My hope is that by sharing this journey—through moments of vulnerability, pain, and triumph—you will find the courage to face your own battles with strength and grace. This book is a testament to the power of hope, faith, and the unbreakable human spirit.
I invite you to read, reflect, and, most importantly, to know that you are never alone.
